Reading
Your child needs to read at least 20 minutes each night and write the title in their agenda, please sign next to the title in your child' agenda. Once I have each child's new reading level, I will send home a list of prompts you can use to talk to your child about their reading, and I'll update it as your child's reading progresses.
Your child will also have a fun book report/project due every quarter of the year. These projects will not count as a classroom standards grade, they are to encourage your child to be creative and have fun reading!
Here are some guiding questions (TRC question stems) you may use to help your child with comprehension. Please look for the heading matching your child's reading level. If you need to know your child's current level, please email me!

Math
Your child will have not math homework most nights. I strongly feel that students need to do the majority of work and practicing at school, and once they're home they need time to play, relax, and spend quality time with their family. Multiple studies have shown that homework in elementary school creates more stress for students and decreases the love for learning. (I want your students to LOVE LEARNING and love coming to school!) All of that being said, students may have to bring home some work if they're not completing it consistently at school. I will be communicating with you about incomplete work beforehand if this will happen.
More help:
I have some helpful sites listed by quarter (will be adding as the year goes on) - please take a look if you find yourself frustrated by the "new math." Our goal is for the student to understand the "WHY this is the answer" and know how to problem solve, not just the steps for "HOW to get the answer."
