Second Grade is a VERY busy year!
Just to give you an idea of what we do in a day I have created a list of items your child will be working on each week. Some of this will be completed at school, some at home and some will be going back and forth. It is imperative that you help your child stay organized with their work this year. We will have a specific organization system that will help them keep up with everything.

LiteracyDuring the daily "Module Lesson", we have mini-lessons on reading comprehension strategies, writing, and language. The students also have blocks of time which they spend practicing the strategies we have taught with focused activities surrounding real life text.
Spelling - Spelling is integrated into our word work this year. Your child will not get a "Spelling List" to memorize, but will work on learning correct spelling patterns based on their current need that they can apply to many other words. · Writing: I will model how to write certain types of pieces, then the students will complete their own writing using their creative minds. Students at this age write best about the things they know or their own stories, so that's what we'll work on the most during writing this year. · Language: Students will complete an interactive notebook in class to use as a reference guide for grammar and standard English language. · Reading: Students will be reading a wide range of books each quarter, balancing time between literature and informational text. |
MathStudents will be learning math with a variety of approaches in 2nd grade. We will use a lot of hands-on activities along with real-world applications to learn about different math strategies. This helps students understand the true mechanics of mathematics and love learning at the same time!
